Top cities with the most polluted air. Check your city air quality index!
The billions of people in cities around the world are exposed to huge danger, generated by the air they breathe. Pollution rates are extremely diverse at global level, with the most polluted areas being in Asia and Africa. As far as the situation of the big cities in Europe is concerned, Bucharest is ranked fourth in the most polluted capital, surpassing only Istanbul, Warsaw and Budapest.
The latest World Health Organization (WHO) link data on the concentration of ultra-fine particles in the air has been made public. These data refer to particles smaller than 2.5 microns and were collected from each region of the world.
Even after the implementation of measures to combat pollution, the air in Paris measures a double air pollution level compared to the WHO recommended limit, 18 micrograms per cubic meter, compared to 10 micrograms per cubic meter (limit). However, Paris is ranked among the least polluted cities.
On the opposite side, Iranian city Zabol is the biggest danger, with no less than 217 micrograms per cubic meter. The world's most polluted cities are headed by India, China and Iran.
About European continent, Macedonia's Tetovo city is the most polluted city, with an index of 81 micrograms per cubic meter. The country with the most polluted air is Turkey, considering that eight of the top 10 most polluted cities in Europe are Turkish cities.
The top 10 of European capitals are led by Istanbul, followed by Warsaw and Budapest. The fourth place is Bucharest, with 23 micrograms per square meter. However, apart from Istanbul, all European capitals are below 30 micrograms per square meter, which, compared to other cities in the world, is a low value. The top is completed by Prague (19), Brussels (18), Paris (18), Vienna (18), Rome (17) and Amsterdam (16)
Across the ocean, in the United States and Canada, the charts are headed by Californian cities. As far as large cities are concerned, they are only slightly below or below the recommended WHO limit. Los Angeles has index 11, while New York (9) and Toronto (8) are under the WHO recommendation.
