in #life6 years ago

Hello steemians! About a year ago I was in the best shape of my life!

I was running up to mile a day, I was eating right, and I felt good! I felt really good in my clothes and I had more energy during the days to keep me going. Then I fell into the relationship trap where I was comfortable with the person I was with and not exercising or taking enough time for me which I should have been doing.

I think a lot of us tend to fall into this trap where we become comfortable with our partners and we stopped taking the time to exercise and truly take care of ourselves, when we really should be thinking don’t I want to stay attractive and fit for my partner? And more importantly for myself?

So I really started this year off trying to be my best self again get back into working out, to really connect my mind body and soul. And also just because I want to be healthier before It becomes a problem or before I feel I’m letting myself go.

Since we have so much information available to us via YouTube, exercise blogs, access to the Internet there’s not too much of a reason to have a gym membership anymore.. aside from a yoga class, or a spinning class here and there.

So I’m back in the saddle again so to speak and using steemit to really hold myself accountable. I’ll be blogging more about meals I’m making or planning including recipes Incase anyone else out there wants to jump onboard the fitness/wellness train with me!

I’m starting with baby steps, I’m speed walking a mile a day and stretch exercises as my warm up, and then doing various cardio or target muscle group exercises through YouTube.

My target areas are my arms to get rid of and prevent further arm jiggle. My stomach to get rid of and prevent further belly and back fat. And my legs and butt to tone and firm.

Some of the YouTube workout routines that I love are:
For arms:

For legs and butt:

And this channel which has video’s to every individual muscle group workouts:

Now I am not a dietitian or weight loss expert but this is what has worked for me and I wanted to share with you!

How shape are you, thumbs up, it's really motivated. Thanks for sharing. Upvoted and followed.

Thank you very much! Appreciate your feedback and vote and follow!!! Right back at you!

Glad to read that you're taking back control. It's something I've been planning on doing for a while now and I think that's the problem. The part about planning. It's such a farce. A joke we tell ourselves to feel better about the present because we think the future is a definite. So I'm taking a page out of your book and realizing my vision of later right this second. Thanks :)

That’s awesome to hear! I’m so happy I was able to motivate / inspire you in a way! Smiling from ear to ear right now!

Back I Holland staying in shape was easy... ish. Haha. A lot of people do not have cars there and if they do, they use them to only to go place further than 8km (5 miles) away. The rest is bikes, bikes, and more bikes. I have lost weight since I moved here. But that is only because I have had a drastic cut back on my beer consumption haha. My endurance on the other hand, not so good. I too did not own a car. So I biked 3 miles a day to work and 3 miles back. On days I had a car at my disposal it would actually take longer to get to work. Anyway, A good tip, especially for someone in a warm flat landscape, get a bike get some saddle bags and do your shopping and short/close errands on the bike. It's fun, healthy, green and surprisingly not as time-consuming as you think once you are used to it. Just a thought.

Oh, and Dutch girls have the nicest legs...

Loving this feedback, suggestion, and bike! I want to get myself a cute 2 tone beach cruiser like that!

Watch out with beach cruisers the saddle sits very low, resulting in only using your front thighs. You waist a lot of energy going slow a making frog shaped legs. :P Typically you want to be sitting straight-up. elbows at 40/45 degrees to hold the handlebars, and your leg almost fully straight on lowest point of the down stroke. Efficient and most balanced use of leg and stomach muscles. This is of course for the above posted Dutch granny bike. (In my opinion the best, yes even for a man.) Mountain and racebikes are a different story. Not as relaxed looking as a beach cruiser, but you not riding that bike to be relaxed ;) Oh and stay away from the evil temptation of gears.

Dutch don't mess around.

Wow no kidding! And thanks for the advice I am 100% purchasing a bike within the month as a present to myself

Glad to hear you're pursuing the fit and healthy lifestlye. I've been trying to do so as well but sometimes food, alcohol, and laziness overcome me haha. Looking forward to more of your posts!

Agreed especially the alcohol. I enjoy having beer and wines! Now when I go out I try to get the least sugary or carby cocktail. I’ve been ordering vodka tonic with a lemon and a lime to squeeze in for flavor!

Ahh great choice, I'm a big fan of vodka tonic as well. I'm still just a fresh graduate and alcohol usually means binge drinking and getting wasted with friends. I'll probably outgrow it but for now it remains as probably the biggest hindrance in my attempt for a fit and healthy lifestyle

Lol I remember those days! Don’t forget to drink water before you fall asleep after a long night of drinking, it’s the least you can do for your body and you’ll feel a heck of a lot better in the morning!! Trust me 😃

Nice! I wish you the best of luck with your journey. Ok, I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit it but my fitness routine involves the nintendo wii. lol, I know. There there is old "game" called My Fitness Coach, it helps me get in a 45 minute routine every day. The routine changes and progressively gets harder. No gym membership! It's what helped me lose 40lbs years ago and a few months ago I started back into the routine again. I hadn't gained the weight back but not working out caused loss of strength and definition. I ended up with bad neck pains and working out plus seeing a chiropractor has almost completely gotten rid of the pain. Cheers to health!

Don’t be embarrassed at all I’ve been thinking about purchasing a Wii again just for the Zumba routine now that’s embarrassing LOL

Haha, nice! Whatever it takes right?

It's difficult to me how you can look like anything but in shape considering all those beautiful pictures of you :) Truth is yeah, in couple, we tend to let ourselves go... But it's called HAPPINESS :) And why not? One can have a relationship and still hit the gym or go running :) That being said, it reminds me i need to buy some shoes and go running asap! Summer is coming haha :)

Thanks so sweet of you to say, those are the photos of when I was in the best shape so there are a few pound gained here. But I’m doing really good with sticking with the routine and healthy eating that I’ll be posting more of those soon!! It’s called HAPPINESS haha so true! I need new running shoes too .. you’ve inspired me to go buy a pair I’ll take a look around tomorrow or Friday and blog about it lolz but for real!

Welcome to steemit. Following and upvoting you. Hope to see more great post. If you like you can check my posts.

Thanks Muhammad!! Following you too!

Hello Jaclyn, I'm Joey, and you're right that it takes baby steps towards health, fitness, to better life, and everything. Good work in running, in eating healthy, in sharing your life and photos and these videos and everything. You're fit, beautiful, daring. Keep up the good work. I eat garlic and oatmeal.

Thank you so very much! I’m so interested In this garlic oatmeal ... please tell me more!

Jacky, I do hope for the best for you in health and relationships. And it can be tough when we are trapped or when we feel trapped. Well, I eat oatmeal for the fiber. I eat garlic because it heals. Also, apple cider vinegar helps. The secret to health is mostly rooted in the gut, the center of your body, the stomach and also the liver. So, juice and water fasts helps a lot. Love your photos. You're very beautiful and fit.

recipes? sounds good.. i am planning to do yoga this year.. :)

Me too, one of my oldest dearest friends got married not too long ago and his wife is a yoga instructor she said we will start doing it together Sunday’s and she’s pay for me 1st session! Totally taking her up on that!

my friend posted her yoga routine in facebook and i was totally amazed! the fluidity in her body, the strength in every inch of her body, the effortless look in every pose , that's totally amazing. i know the hardest part is the stretching part, and it will take some time but it's a good pain after all. :)
