Deciduous woods
Deciduous trees have widely-spread branches. The gaps between their leaves allow plenty of sunlight through to the forest floor, where lots of plants grow and provide food for animals.

• foxes live in burrows called 'earths'. They survive well in the forest because they will eat most things and they have very few enemies. During the daytime they lie low.
During the night they hunt for birds, rodents and rabbits.
• The wood mouse is one of the most common forest rodents. It has long front teeth for gnawing through wood and nutshells.
•lot of different insect- eating birds find food amongst the trees.

• badgers are timid night time creatures. They can see well in the dark and have a strong sense of smell, so it is difficult to watch them without disturbing them.
• wild rabbits live in large groups in complicated tunnel networks called 'warrens'.
• caterpillars and insects feed off the tree leaves, while bark beetles bore into the trunks.
