Why is humility mistaken for timidity and confidence for arrogance AND The Vice-Versas. ??

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Theres got to be reasons why people define these differently or mistake Humility and confidence for timidity and arrogance respectively ,and the vice versa.

This is an interaction section I started yesterday .Every day topics will be put on board for discussion. Please , if there are any concerns ,kindly leave them as comments.... There are a lot of topics that needs clarity .. and a lot of them are questions people ask and face. I think knowing you are not alone in your world of thought releives a lot of us.

Advices, work . But I beleive tactical approaches can be learnt from people as they share ,support ,educate, and ask questions.

On my previous post ,

@skodie @nigtroy and @enoch158 @akakpoeben shared with us how they define #STRESS and how they deal with it, I've realised these are great writers, kindly follow them and enjoy their amazing posts. It's also never late to visit,

Now back to the topic for today..

Humility is not timidity.jpg

Let's hit it ! Humility vs Timidity
And arrogance vs confidence
Whats the difference ,why do you think we interchange them,?

Note: tomorrow,I'll post a summary gathered concerning the topic ,STRESS.

Sort:

Let me explain it this way. Silence doesn't mean nothing to say but nothing to say is silence. Where am I going with this? These are two different things all together and they share similarities.

Humility isn't Timidity and vice versa and yet they share some common traits. Same does arrogance and confidence.

Allow me to start with humility and timidity. Humility is good but when it goes overboard, it becomes timidity. Over confidence becomes arrogance. Too much of everything is bad basically.

People are entitled to their opinions and limits. What I may term over confidence, someone considers confidence.

Now to differences. While confidence comes from a place of belief, arrogance comes from a place of strength and pride. While humility comes from a place of peace and reverence, timidity comes from a place of fear.

They are easily mistaken for each other as they share similarities.

Well, confident people, especially the overconfident ones take a stand and stick to it. They'd say anything and do anything to prove their point and would barely want to accept another's opinion, that's where the illusion of arrogant sets in the minds of those who have to deal with them.

For humility aspect, there are the humble people who are offended and would confront their offenders humbly, and there are those who'd chose to do nothing and just let it slide and fade away. The former are those that are more likely to be considered timid, because their decision not to act created the illusion in the minds of people that they can't act.

Can I then say , a timid person is humble. But a humble person is not timid ? @nigtroy

A timid personlooks humble but that's just because of the timidity, it's not genuine humility.
A humble person is not timid, but you can have the shy ones labeled by people as timid.

Oo this is clear.. and interesting .. I appreciate your selfless involvement and contribution

Thank you @nigtroy

Confidence, to me is an act that can be learnt. Some are born with it others like myself ,have to learn it. Arrogance set in when we let our confidence and our pride share a bed. When will do not put our pride in check, we end up being arrogant.

Humility is also a learnt trait while timidity is a product of fear. A humble person knows when to speak and when not to. So in the midst of valueless conversations, they remain quiet at all times which is similar to what a timid person will do except that, the timid acts in fear of what might happen if they were to talk.

I've noticed a word that is trending. Fear. Briefly , how will you define humility ? Please ,if you don't mind

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

But I beleive tactical approaches can be learnt from people as they share ,support ,educate, and ask questions.
It should be believe instead of beleive.

Thanks. Will correct that asap
