Is There a Link Between Not Vacationing and Depression?

in #life6 years ago

Ipsos Public Affairs and Allianz Global Assistance have conducted a study in which they identified a condition that is called "Vacation Deficit Disorder." Participants took a health questionnaire that tested their levels of depression and also answered the question of how important an annual vacation is.

The tests showed that about one-third of the American population who weren't able to go on vacation experienced mild to moderate symptoms of depression. For more severe cases, only 12 percent showed signs, and hadn't taken a vacation in two years! For those with moderately severe to severe symptoms, 40 percent believed annual vacations were important.

Daniel Durazo, communications director at Allianz, acknowledged that there are real effects on one's health from not vacationing. As far as long-term effects go, additional research will be required to determine if there is any correlation.

Of the 58 percent overall who said that taking a vacation each year is important, 21 percent are convinced they will not be able to take one.

The Vacation Confidence Index has been conducted nationally every summer since 2010.
