Swimming Through the Waves of Life

Sometimes life can greatly resemble the sight and movement of waves moving their way to shore.

Whether out at sea or swimming at the shore, moments in the water at times can feel turbulent. You can get swallowed up and tossed around leaving you gasping for breath once your lungs meet the air again. Sometimes with all the commotion you end up with an undesired throat full of salt water and no matter how hard you try or what you do, you keep getting tumbled around.

But then those blissful moments happen where the water sways you peacefully and you can float at sea while feeling one with nature rather than fighting it. It’s almost as if Mother Nature is swaying you with encouragement and tenderly hugging you. The steadiness of the water enacts a feeling of tranquility and safeness.

There are many instances in life that are similar to this. One day you might feel a sense of harmony and calmness with the world around you but the very next day that same world’s waves might come crashing down on you making you feel powerless and weak.

Countless events happen in our lifetime that can feel like a storm at sea. Relationships in our lives, money, our own morals, sickness or health, work, etc. All of these things and many more can cause us to go through constant bumps and splashes.

The one constant that there is throughout all of this is that these waves of life are completely unpredictable. To many, swimming in the open water or in the plumage of waves can be absolutely terrifying. If that’s the case it can be easy to overlook the moments of floating and swaying peacefully. Perhaps those moments are much more present in our lives than we can see.

Regardless of what kind of wave you may be facing in life it’s helpful to realize, that just like water, it’s ever-changing. And you can’t physically stand up to Mother Nature and stop the waves, but perhaps you can instead embrace it’s roughness and learn to surf it.

Observing Mother Nature in all of its turmoil and beauty is like looking into a reflective lens of our own lives. At the end of the day, I think a lot of us can agree that the ocean and it’s dynamic water is remarkably beautiful.
