Martial arts and self physics

Martial arts of old used to concern themselves more with others, today they seem to me more self centered. Let me clarify this observation as it relates more to to society than just Martial Arts.

The main objective of ancient arts was to understand your enemy and their weaknesses. To do this you needed to take the focus off “SELF” and place greater focus on your opposition.

In a struggle, fight or battle, if one thought about themselves (defense of self), you lost. By that I mean if an onslaught was or is upon you, and you think of self (be it position, protection or possibilities), the opponent intent on you overwhelms you easily. As the opponent focuses on you, you must focus on their inner weaknesses as your objective free from fear, position or momentum. You must go to the source of their very existence... the vital point.

As further, albeit more gruesome, as the opponent swings a weapon at your head, you do not block the attack as it will quickly rebound and come again at other targets and angles. This give them increasing momentum as you think only if self (preservation). Instead, as the opponent swings, you rush in with your sword, to stab their vital targets.

This change in focus, with selfless thought, you take the more direct and powerful route.

Modern relevance

Today’s Martial Artist and yes most members of society are so consumed with self, that they have become vulnerable. The Martial Artist (again insert society if you wish), think more about their uniform (possessions), belt (appearance), performance (acceptance)... rather than the true mission. Most Martial Arts schools and Instructor push these upon their students rather than helping them focus more on opponents or situations. They spend years maki g the student think about twisting their waists (superfluous crappola) and self development than outer focus or the opponent.

Again this brings the student into the trap of self study, criticism, depression (comparing themselves to others over the true task at hand)... and ineffective, inefficient ability to handle outer tasks. It Begets huge yet increasingly vulnerable egos that become so exposed and fragile that it draws problems directly to it as a target, or vital point.

Return to ancient ways

We must look outward with selflessness to really see. We watch the events unfold with pure concentration and focus on the source and weakness. If we concern ourselves even the slightest, we loose the true focus and yield victory.

Your opponent

Your true opponent is ego or focus on yourself, seriously we must not close our eyes to imagine ourselves, we must open them to try see what opposes us as we look toward their vital point (of origin, weakness and solution)... this is Kyusho.
