Topat War, The Way of Lombok People Welth the Feast and Harmony of Religious People
The people of Indonesia have many traditions to welcome the Eid al-Fitr. Each region must have its own traditions. So it is with Lombok society. The tradition is called the Topat War of Lombok and is held every 7 days after the 1st of Shawwal. Despite being called a war, calm down, you will not find bloodshed in this tradition celebration.
Although this tradition is still in contact with Muslims, Hindus are also participants of the topat war. Therefore, the tradition becomes a real picture of religious tolerance and harmony. This hereditary tradition is really guarded to keep the harmony of religious people.
Though throwing at each other, no revenge or fighting is happening. In fact this tradition became one of the symbols of peace of Muslims and Hindus in Lombok. Even in Pura Lingsar, the usual temple to be the location of this tradition, there are two places of worship. First Pura Gaduh, a place of Hindu worship. Next is Kemaliq, the place of worship that was forbidden by the Sasak Muslims.
It used to be a Ritual for Rain
Not only become a symbol of harmony among religious people, once the topat war is a ritual to ask for rain for farmers in Lombok. Ketupat who has been thrown in a topat war is believed to resemble fertilizers in agriculture and plantations. Not infrequently the ketupat is spread in the fields or hung on a tree by the residents.
Closely Relates to the Development of Pura Lingsar
King Ketut Karangasem of Bali built Lingsar Park in 1759. Shortly after the collapse of the power of the Mataram Kingdom. The development of Lingsar Park aims to unite, the Sasak Lombok people who embrace Islam with wetu telu and Bali citizens who are Hindus. Until now, you can still find two different believers living side by side in Lingsar Park.
The tradition of Topat War is clear evidence that differences in beliefs are not a problem. In fact they can live side by side and perform traditions that have been hereditary.
