The passing of a wonderful woman and why I have been MIA

in #life6 years ago

My last living grandparent, Nanny, has not been doing well the last couple of years and things took a turn for the worse the Friday before last when she fell and broke a bone in her leg. This led to surgery, which was successful but the stress was too much for her and she proceeded to have a heart-attack and another mini-stroke (of which she had a few already). My brother called me and after speaking with him and my uncle that following Monday, I decided to catch the quickest flight to Houston I could but the fastest way was to leave at 1 am PST and arrive 7 am CST, so I flew all night with no sleep and my brother picked me up at the airport and we made our way to the hospital.

Once we got there we found everyone outside of the room and when I hugged my dad he said, "she didn't make it buddy" and after a few seconds of processing what that meant, I knew I was too late. I had missed her by just 45 minutes, but I firmly believe I was not meant to be there to see her end in this shell and honestly that may have been best. I saw my other three grandparents go through the end and it was not something anyone wants to experience if they have a choice, or at least to me. But I knew she was at peace and had been tired and was ready to move on, and I am so glad she found peace surrounded by her loved ones who cared for her immensely.

I was honored to get to help select the photos for the slide show and help with the tech side of that, and I got to write the obituary with the help of family and the funeral did a good job adding things we forgot to. I was also a pallbearer and that is always such an honor to have bestowed on you. The services were beautiful and it was great to see all of the amazing growing families I am related to. Always a treat to see my brother and his family, they really are a special group!

Interesting note for any liberty lovers out there, Dr. Ron Paul was my grandmothers doctor when she lived down in Brazoria county back in the day! She also was on city council and she read at least one book per day, every single day! She was brilliant and I loved talking with her and hearing all of her stories. She will be dearly missed and always with me.

Condolences, you have Amber and my love, brother.

Thank you both so much, I truly appreciate you both for your constant support!

Its really painful to loose a loved one in death. But the legacies they leave behind builds in us the desire to do or even surpass the things they did. Hilda Faye Adams lived a life full of rememberance. Her children and all who loved her can reflect on how our actions everyday affects the life of others. Indeed, the real question is: how would you like to be remembered. For her, she was remembered by all with wonderful memories. Take heart @mickeybeaves and accept my condolences

Thank you so much for these kind words!
