Many times when we achieve salvation in Christ and our life is a bit clean, there is a certain loss of compassion for those who are still lost. We can go down the street and see the drunk who stumbles or we run into the clerk in the office who is clearly false to everyone and their language is vulgar, and in us there is no compassion, we do not notice that they are in a prison that It leads to sinking others and sinking, we end up looking at them with spiritual contempt. But if there were a true understanding of our Heavenly Father's heart, we would not act that way. Jesus told a story that manages to reveal a little the heart full of love of the Father: the parable of the prodigal son.
Surely you have heard and read repeatedly about how the son left home in rebellion against his father and did not honor him, and sure you know how that father despite everything his son did received him at home with joy and love when the son arrived repentant. But, I want to emphasize some words from this parable and these are:
Personally I can see that these words reveal in a small portion the touching, compassionate and loving way of that father's heart. I believe those words show that even before his son repented and returned, during those long days when his son was still in sin and away from home, this father was not disconnected from his son, on the contrary he watched over him and in his He wanted her to return home. Surely that father watched every morning, waiting to see the silhouette of his beloved son come and surely this was the last thing he did every night, look again at the horizon, forcing his gaze full of hope in the darkness. His son was present in his mind, and his heart was always full of love for him; it is that kind of love that is selfless, it is that kind of love that led this father to run happily towards his son and kiss him when he saw that he was finally coming home.
That is the same kind of heart that our heavenly Father has for all those who are lost. That is the kind of heart that our Father God had for us, when we were still wandering the lost world. It is the same heart that accepted us with open arms and full of love, although we were still covered with the filth of a life of sin.
In our daily lives, we know that there are many tired people who are still struggling with something they do not understand and have not found that acceptance. So I think it is better not to look at those people only as "sinners", but also to look at them as the Father would see them, lost children who are in need of the loving heavenly Father who came to meet us. May God help us every day more to look at them with deep love and to start bringing home each child that is lost.
