Zombie Outbreak Preparedness, or ZOP - Part 1

They're coming, you know they are...and they want your BRAINS!!!

But, you can defeat the zombies, and be prepared for other emergencies along the way! Over the next few weeks, I will be giving you simple ways that you can be prepared for many of the things that come your way! Emergency Management Professionals (like myself) recommend that you be prepared for at least 72 hours of YOYO time. No, that's not three days of playing with a string toy (though that might help pass the time), it means after a disaster, You're On Your Own for three days. It can take that long to get help to you, and if you can be prepared for three days, then we can find ways to get help to you after that.

But first, you need a Zombie Outbreak Kit, henceforth referred to as a ZOK.

If you're an old stick in the mud like me, you can also call it a disaster preparedness kit, but DPK isn't nearly as fun to say as ZOK.

To start with, you'll need a good sturdy tote or plastic container to hold your ZOK. I'd strongly recommend that you choose a sturdy one that isn't too large so that you can easily move it if you need to. You can always add another one if you want.

If you're going to have a couple of strong people to help you out and you'd prefer to only have one part to your ZOK, then you can always get an extra large tote and keep everything in one place.

See, not that hard to get started, and for the price, you're getting an excellent piece of equipment. A good tote is worth its weight in gold because it can be used for so much more once the Zombie Outbreak happens. Not only will it store your ZOK, but once you've opened it up and taken your ZOK out, you can use it to gather clean water during a rain storm, store clothing and other essentials that you need to keep dry, store your firewood in it, keep your zombie defense weapons in it, or just about anything else you can think of.

Watch for another ZOP post soon, and feel free to leave me your thoughts in the comments!

Just so we're clear, these posts are all inspired by the Centres for Disease Control Zombie Preparedness posts from a few years ago. They had the idea first, and while I think it's a good one, it is not an idea that is unique to me. The content of the posts are unique to me (at least as far as I know), and if you happen to click on and/or buy one of the products I have linked to, I might get a small commission from Amazon.
