RE: Are you triggered by words?

in #life6 years ago

As I get older I'm less triggered by things. I've long realized I can't change other peoples' minds, and I don't really have the desire to. I don't care enough to fight it out with them, and I don't have to be right.

Of course, there are still deeds and actions that will trigger me, but words alone have mostly lost their power over me.

Mostly.

That’s an interesting place to be in. You’re a writer and to say, some words have lost their effective is a bold statement to make. Granted it’s mostly words intended to cause a negative reaction. I wonder if you have also become unmoved by other types of words too.

Or do you cry to every sappy poem?

I think as people age, they become numb to certain things. Things that made them sad before no longer do, and things that made them afraid are now boring and typical. Maybe different things make them sad (like losing a loved one or stories/words about that), and different things make them afraid (like falling and breaking a hip).

I suppose in the end, the things that trigger you change as you change.
