VAMPIRE MYTHOLOGY LEGENDS AND FOLKLORE....WHAT A TERRIBLE LEGEND.

in #life6 years ago

More and more Vampire books and stories, and films are circulating,,,nightmarish and also as friendly beings who assist the living. But mostly in legends they are scary terrible,
undead creatures.

Vampire legends have existed for millennia, in cultures all over the world. The ancient Greeks, Mesopotamian, Hebrews and Romanians all have stories of the legendary creatures.
From the early 18th Century, the folklore developed in Eastern Europe changed ,and developed as it is known in modern day.
In Transylvania the verbal traditions were documented and published worldwide. Depicting Vampires as evil beings, and to be afraid of. This resulted in mass hysteria and many public executions. ( A very pale or even sickly consumptive person might be executed as Vampire).

The chilling tales of the undead consuming blood and even sometimes the flesh of living beings, including cats and other livestock, spread throughout European cultures. In the ancient Hebrew mythology Lilith, the so believed first wife of Adam, was considered a demon, subsisting on the blood of babies and men.

She would turn into a beautiful woman, and so deceive. The Hebrew culture in order to ward her off, would put amulets around the babys cradle.'
From an ugly demon Lileth. into a beautiful seductive woman.

Strange that he second vampire is also a female!
Empusa in Ancient Greek mythology is the daughter off the goddess Hecate, and she also transformed herself into a beautiful woman and feasted on the blood of men at nightfall.

Calmet described in the Philosophical dictionary "These vampires were corpses who went out of their graves at night to suck the blood of of the living, either through their necks or their stomachs, thereafter to return to their graves . The persons who who were sucked became pale and fell into consumption. It was in in Poland, Hungary Selisai Moravia and Austria that the dead made this good cheer" Good cheer indeed.
The list as far as I can see goes from country to country with different names, origins, and physical attributes.. The most famous of all vampires is the Romanian Price Vlad Tepes (14311-1476) . Immensely rich and lived in a castle , and at night visited the human beings.!

How do you find a vampire, by dressing a year old boy in white, putting him on a white horse and letting him ride in a cemetery. As the horse canters around it will stop a the grave of a vampire, its resting place.(I think the horse might just have stopped for a nibble of grass)

You can protect yourself from vampires is to ward them off by hanging garlic or a cross at the door, to leave lights in your house, or to stake them with either a wooden or silver stake and so pin them to the coffin, or sever the head and stuff it with garlic.!( I wonder who will dare to sever an unread creature's head)
However many geological discoveries of skeletons with stakes in their chests, or severed heads with teeth removed have been found believed to be that of suspected Vampires.

There are real vampires, but in the Animal kingdom.!
Vampire bats, lampreys and leeches! (Most likely giving the legends an origin)
