Dolphin Rape the Band & Some History of Myspace's Digital Grind-core Scene
In the mid 2000's there was a small music scene that existed almost entirely online, it surrounded a small group of solo-musicians who made a type of music similar to grindcore music using fruity loops and other tools to create instrumental tracks to accompany growling and screaming.
One of the "bands" was known as Dolphin Rape, a Canadian solo act who had little to no talent, a computer and a microphone. The name was inspired by the very true stories of Dolphin Rape's that have occurred and an episode of King of the Hill about Hank getting molested by a Dolphin.
There were no actual lyrics, and I think half of the vocals were just random noises and screeching, somewhat a parody of itself and maybe somewhat ahead of the time. While this particular example probably didn't inspire any commercial or even amateur musicians I have definitely picked up some qualities of this short-lived genre in other genre's of music including some new hip-hop, though it's likely just a coincidence.
Internally the music was called digi-grind or Digital Grindcore, and for all intents and purposes was grindcore with a drum machine. The visuals, style, subject matter was very similar to most grindcore acts; dirty band members, disgusting awful lyrics, noise and shit.. you get it.
Dolphin Rape along with the label in controlled was disbanded in 2005 when the only member converted to Islam and stopped listening to music.
