One in eight people in the world suffers from high blood pressure. Hypertension increases the risk of heart and kidney disease. It also has the risk of stroke. A survey report was published in the medical journal Lancet. It has been said that high blood pressure is now very much visible. It has become a challenge for some of the conventional concepts.

According to The Economist, one-fifth of women worldwide and one-fourth of men suffers from high blood pressure. There is high risk of high blood pressure among women and men in Central and Eastern Europe. Sub-Sahara Africa women are also at high risk of high blood pressure. But the risks of high blood pressure are low in Western and Asian countries and in South Korea, the United States and Canada. High blood pressure is seen among men and women in 36 countries. Most of these countries are in Africa.
