Gotthold Ephraim Lessing was born on 22 Jan 1729 in Kamenz. He died on 15 Feb 1781 in Braunschweig.
He was an important poet and playwright. With his theoretical writings, which are pompous above all for the idea of tolerance, and his dramas, he showed the way for the development of theatre as an enlightener and influenced the public impact of literature. Lessing's works are still performed in theatres today.

Gotthold Ephraim Lessing wurde am 22. Januar 1729 in Kamenz geboren. Er verstarb am 15. Februar 1781 in Braunschweig.
Er war ein bedeutender Dichter und Dramatiker. Mit seinen theoretischen Schriften, welche vor allem dem Toleranzgedanken verprlichtet sind, und seinen Dramen, hat er als Aufklärer der Entwicklung des Theaters den Weg gewiesen und die öffentliche Wirkung der Literatur beeinflusst. Lessings Werke werden bis heute ununterbrochen in den Theatern aufgeführt.
