Fulbert was born in 960. He came from a poor French family. In his youth he probably lived in Poitiers, and when the time came to study, young Fulbert moved to Reims to study at the cathedral school.
At the age of 30, Fulbert came to Chartres to take up a teaching job at the cathedral school. When he started his activity, the school in Chartres quickly became a well-known cultural center in France.
Thanks to his actions, Fulbert quickly advanced in the church hierarchy. He was appointed canon and chancellor of the local episcopal curia, and after the death of bishop, Fulbert was elected bishop.

As bishop Fulbert he was a very wise and active man. He had a lot of knowledge, which was often used by the French King, Robert II the Pious.
Fulbert cared for the church administration and stood out as the perfect host of the diocese.
When the cathedral in Chartres destroyed the fire, Fulbert rebuilt it, and he did it so well that the cathedral is still one of the most admired masterpieces of sacral architecture.

Fulbert was also concerned about raising the level of education. He renewed the cathedral school in Chartres and maintained a high level of teaching.
Fulbert was also a perfect theologian and writer. He left by himself many sermons, theological treatises and hymns written in Latin.

Saint Fulbert of Chartres died on 10 April 1028.
