Have you ever considered what would happen, if tomorrow you were fired from your job?

Surely it would be to live by the savings you have. But how long could you be like this? Have you considered a change of life, of work?

I would like to make you reflect on this post, about your situation of financial freedom.

In my previous post, I explained my goal of obtaining the financial freedom and explained that it was passive income.

In this post I want you to analyze what is your level of financial freedom. Knowing where you are, will make it easier for you to organize your objectives in the short term in order to create your own plan and achieve or improve your financial freedom.

To know your level of financial freedom, you need to know 3 factors:

  1. Level of expenses
  2. Target income
  3. Current passive income

The deadline to calculate it will be monthly.
Let's start.

  1. Nivel de gastos
  2. Ingresos objetivo
  3. Ingresos pasivos actuales

El plazo para calcularlo será mensual.
Comencemos.

1. Level of expenses

We must analyze, what fixed expenses we have monthly. Do not try to hide expenses, a good way is to look at your bank statement for a whole year and analyze all the expenses that you currently have.

As we want to do a monthly analysis, the annual expenses divide by 12.

Example of expenses rent, insurance, gas, internet, food, leisure,...

Try to create concepts that year after year you will have, try to group them. I'll give you an example:

CONCEPTAMOUNT
Rent / Mortgage7800 (650 USD month)
Supplies (light, water)960 (80 USD month
Internet, phone720 (60 USD month)
Insurance450 USD year
Taxes400 USD year
Food3300 (275 USD month)
Gas1920 (160 USD month)
Leisure3000 (250 USD month)
Extras1200(100 USD month)
TOTAL19.750 USD

The estimated total cost is 19750 USD year. It is the same as 1645 USD / month

2. Target income

At this point you must be realistic. It is about establishing the level of income you need to be able to live as you want.
Obviously we all want to earn 100,000 USD a month, but that would be fooling yourself.

In my case, the goal is to be able to live at the same level that I currently live, what I really want is to be able to dedicate my time to what I like, so being 15% above my expenses would be perfect.

My target income therefore would be 1892 USD

3. Current passive income

In this section you must contemplate ALL the income that you get STABLE.

DO NOT CONTEMPLATE:

  • Payroll income. You should only contemplate income you receive without taking time to obtain it (Passive income)
  • Extraordinary income, if for example you have sold your motorcycle, car, collection of trading cards or have received an inheritance, that amount of money should not be included in the analysis, since it will not happen again.

NO CONTEMPLES:

CONCEPTAMOUNT
Bank account interest60 year (5 USD month))
Receipt domiciliation35 USD year (2%)
Gas card (bonification)35 USD year (2%)
Stock Dividends332 USD year
TOTAL19.750 USD

Our monthly passive income is 38, 78 USD / month

Nuestros ingresos pasivos mensuales son 38,78 USD/mes

Once we have done this analysis, calculate our current level of financial freedom, we apply this formula:

% financial freedom = 37,78 / 1892 * 100 = 2,05

This % has been an example to help you perform the calculation.

In my case, the % of financial freedom is 32.74%. In the following entries I will explain what are my passive income, and what I am doing to increase them.
I hope you have served to reflect, and if you want, write in the comments what is your level of financial freedom.

Hi @retirado! Good reflection!

Honestly, I did not think about it before. My financial freedom now is so low, about 3,5% i think

I'm going to start working on it. ;-)
