Facebook Knows A Lot Of Really Creepy Things About You

in #life8 years ago

Since Facebook advertising to its social media platform a couple of years ago, the company has been very aggressive in tracking its users across the web. Because of this, the company now knows far more about your personal life than you could possibly imagine.

Facebook recently put out an education portal for targeted ads that reveals all 98 data points the company uses to target individuals with its advertising. The list is very revealing – and more than a little disturbing.

Facebook already knows a lot of things about its users that are pretty obvious, like your relationship status, where you went to school, if you are about to have a baby, and even where you went on vacation. No surprise so far. This is all stuff that was voluntarily submitted.

Then things get weird. And creepy.

Facebook also knows if you use coupons, if you are going to move soon, how many lines of credit you have, if you are an investor, and what you prefer to invest in.

And that’s just for starters.

How does Facebook know all of these personal things? It knows these things because it tracks everything you do on the internet, on your mobile devices, your location settings, and other things. The company is able to track you across the web thanks to all of the websites that now have “like” or “share” buttons. Many website publishers also use a tool called Facebook Pixel that tracks users, too. Facebook also gathers additional data by contracting with companies that compile data from product warranties, surveys, government records, and other sources.

What does Facebook do with all of this data? They sell you as a target to advertisers. It’s all about the money.

The following is the full list of 98 data points it uses to target individuals with its advertising (in case you were wondering):

The more you share, like, comment .... the more they know. I have noticed way too many ads showing up in my feed. That's annoying.

Whoa!! That's is a lot of personal information about people. I hope Facebook never get hacked.

facebook, doesn't know more than you tell...
It is up to the user to fill all the questions Facebook asks (I am always amazed at the question they asked, such as religions, political affiliation... and more). This is definitely up to the user to disclose only what he feels like disclosing...

The problem is that a lot of people voluntarily share way too much of personal details on Facebook without even thinking why they are doing it (not knowing or not caring) and if that information can somehow be abused.

they also know when your awake or sleeping and where you sleep and with who and who is nearby what they have in their house. cant win
