The Gain Of Contentment

No matter what you have or what you want to have, the truth is; you cannot have everything in the whole world, so be contented with the ones you have. Even what you consider little in your hand is seriously envied by someone out there - you should learn to appreciate the little you have.

Your sense of value for what you have is one of the requirements for the things you have to appreciate and not depreciate. The fact is; being contented with what you have is not a gift, but a choice which you have to make - and not until you are willing to make this choice, you may not be satisfied with life.

Life is not even fair in the first place, so you do not have to expect fairness from life, and you do not have to expect life to deliver to you what you want - so you need to be satisfied with what you have. A friend of mine once said:

Your current status and your current position is desired by someone, so learn to be grateful. - Obi

A story was told of a master that called his servant and asked him; "what will I do to you to make you happy?", and without hesitation, the servant responded "give me 1million and I will be very happy". To his surprised, his master brought his cheque book and wrote a cheque of 1million for him, and he was very surprised.

When the servant left his master, he said to himself "mehn, I would have asked for 2million". You see, this is the height of ingratitude and not being contented. He was quick to forget that he did not deserve the 1million in the first place, but he got it anyway.

In life, we should always learn to see everything we have as a privilege and not a right. In that way, we would lay more emphasis on gratitude and be contented with what we have, instead of pursuing what we may never have.
