True Friendship Like No Other

A friend once told me that "your friends are like the family members you can choose", and I've come to judge it truism. Over the recent past, I have met amazing friends that have proven to me that friendship forms one of the internal cores of the existence of humankind.

Just like it takes iron to sharpen an iron, in the same ways, there are somethings you may never achieve without having an affiliation with someone, and that is what friendship is all about.

When everyone else has taken a bow, your true friends would stick around with you. Not the kind of friends that would console and pet you with lies, but the kind that would look at your face straight up and hit you with the raw truth - now that's true friendship.

The quality of someone's friendship towards you is not measured when "all is well", but when your are in need. That is why the popular adage expresses that fact that "a friend that responds to you in the time of need is your true friend in deed".

But the fact is; you have to attain the qualification of your qualifications first - that is; before you seek out for good friends, you should ask yourself these question: "Am I even friendly?" "Would I want to have someone like me as a friend?". Not until you can answer these questions in the affirmative, then you are not qualified for a good friend.

Friendship is mutual and symbiotic, not just a one-way conduit. When you have this in mind, you will try to see friendship as a call for selfless sacrifice, and not like a parasitic relationship.

Be the kind of friends you desire to have, and you will see how beautiful friendship can be. But in all these, when trying to choose your friends, your should be cautious and choose wisely. Remember, you can either be made or unmade the people you relate with.
