Project Report Part Two: Painting
In my previous post I described the process of cleaning out our long-neglected storage shed. The day we began on that project, the carpenters delivered the pieces of wood they would be using to build a railing on our deck, which needed to be replaced. The idea was to paint the pieces before assembly, which should be easier than afterwards. My hired help went to work at that, as well. They got a good start on it, and then I decided to finish it up myself.
Later, I relocated the entire project to the north side of our house, where there would be more shade and less blossoms blowing off the nearby mountain ash tree. I had to borrow more sawhorses from a neighbor!
Since we could only paint 2 or 3 sides at a time, there was plenty of downtime while paint dried. Fortunately, the weather was sunny and warm. Meanwhile, the deck was looking rather bare. At least it was now safe to open the front door and step out!
Now the carpenters have been back, and the deck railing is complete. Only the stair railings need to be built.
Alas, there is still work to be done on the other deck on the opposite side of the house, so a new pile of wood now awaits painting. But it's raining, so I'm off the hook for a few days.
