The winter gives a poetic touch to the Clematis Vitalba
Yesterday, during our usual walking along the side of the river close to home, a plant catched my attention. It was a clematis vitalba and it was really a beauty in this period of the year!
The vitalba is a climbing plant and it have white (greent white) flowers that during the winter become fruits with silky appendages similar to the beard of an old man ^_^
It's a common plant here in my area and my father told me that in the past time, when he was a young guy, he and his friends used the branches of this plant like cigarettes (don't worry, now nobody do this ^_^).

I love all forms of clematis. As a gardener it is an amazing vine to use although there are three groups of these type of plants and you have to label them each as some grow and flower on old wood and others start fresh each year making it's vine and flowers on new growth, so cutting them back is tricky if you don't know which it is.
I love the idea of using them as a cigarette. When I was young we took notebook paper and rolled dried up oak leaves in them to 'smoke like grownups' Fun times.
