IS IT ALWAYS WRONG TO STEAL EVEN TO FEED A STARVING CHILD?

It is true that people steal for different reasons. While stealing is what some people know how to do, some do it out of 'kindness' and in some cases (in Africa) people steal while under spiritual power.

A typical Yoruba man for instance believes in 'afise'. Afise is a spiritual situation where the person under the spell act without knowing how and why he or she stole. It is an unexplainable situation.

It is possible to deny the reality of 'afise' as a mere superstition but if you have a friend or family friend suffering from it, then you will agree that it is real. However, don't take many things Africans for granted, not all are superstitions.

We know, by Biblical and Qur'anic teachings that stealing is wrong. These Books did not give exceptions to where stealing is good. Under no circumstance must you involve in the act of stealing.

My concern is about instances or cases where this is done for 'good' reasons. In these cases, is it still wrong to steal?

Imagine a mother who has been hungry since morning and has asked people for help but none seems to be coming. If this woman steals for the sole reason to feed herself and her baby, is her action wrong?

Imagine a friend stealing from his mom just to save a friend whose mother is dying in the hospital. Perhaps, she knows her mom wont give her the money to save her friend's mom and so she decided to steal. Is her action wrong?

If your friend is about to be sentenced to death over an alleged murder case and you know the only way to save him is to steal the only proof that can prove his innocence. Would it be wrong to do that? Is stealing such proof wrong?

At what point is stealing truly wrong? Is it wrong in all cases irrespective of the situation involved?

Why can't there be exceptions to some cases of extreme hunger where the person in question had no 'choice' other than to steal?

Should stealing for all course, whether noble or ignoble be condemned always and punished?

What is your take on this topic?

Thanks for your time.

From what I've seen of most people, by the time you're reduced to needing to steal to feed a starving child, if you simply humble yourself enough to ask, you'll be given more than you need.

I do know know what the Qu'ran says, but I do know the Bible and though it does forbid stealing, it also says "ask and you shall receive" - and proceeds to talk about the beauty of the lilies and the sparrow, whom the Heavenly Father feeds and clothes, and reminds us how much more we are loved by Him.

So, yes, stealing is always wrong - but not because it hurts someone else, but because it shows our lack of faith and willing to humble ourselves enough to ask.

Good question/post though. Thanks for sharing it.
