It’s a condition when the stomach acid tends to push up towards our esophagus and sometimes into the mouth. Some people suggest particular sleeping positions to improve the condition, while doctors would prescribe certain medications to treat the problem.

Here are some natural ways discovered by researchers to treat this problem by making use of things that are easily available and making some changes to our lifestyle :

  • Less Alcohol
There are several negative impacts of alcohol on our body, and one of them includes heartburn and acid reflux. We should cut down on our alcohol consumption and especially avoid it during late hours.

  • Cut down on carbonated drinks
Studies have shown that increased intake of carbonated drinks is associated with heartburn and acid reflux. That’s because the carbonated drinks can numb the muscles in the esophagus which is responsible for blocking acid from coming up.

  • Don’t eat before bed
You should at least have a gap of 3 hours between the time you retire to bed and your dinner. Eating during late hours is linked to increased symptoms of acid reflux. You should also avoid eating fatty, sugary and heavy foods before bed.

  • Baking Soda
Baking Soda is alkaline in nature, which is why it’s a great way to neutralize the acid and reduce the problem. However, it should not be taken on regular basis, as it contains high sodium content.

  • Weight Loss
In overweight people, the excess weight can put a pressure on the muscles responsible for preventing the stomach acid from leaking. One good way to treat this chronic problem is to lose weight. Losing weight also have a lot of other benefits as well.

  • Reduce carb intake
Excess carbs in the diet should be avoided, as high carb diet has been linked to increased acid reflux and heartburn. A high carb diet may leave some carbohydrates undigested, which could become a cause of bacterial growth in the stomach. As a byproduct, these growing microorganisms can produce acids which can cause heartburn and acid reflux.

  • Avoid overeating
Eating too much should always be avoided. Gluttony has a lot of negative impacts on our body, including heartburn and acid reflux. Due to overeating, the food can develop a pressure on our stomach. This could prevent the valve from closing completely which is responsible for keeping our stomach acid from reaching up.

  • Turmeric
Turmeric isn’t just an amazing anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory herb, it also works wonders in terms of boosting our digestive system and controlling acid reflux.

  • Ginger and Garlic
These wonderful substances are easily found in the kitchen and could be a quick remedy for acid reflux and heartburn. Some people consider these the reason for acid reflux and heartburn, but in fact, it is a good remedy in case you’re facing such a situation.

  • Fruits
Although some fruits have acetic acid in them, most of the fruits are capable of halting acid production in our body and quickly eliminate the heartburn. Some effective fruits in this regard are bananas, grapes, pineapples, and apples.

Conclusion
Although it’s not a high risked health condition, a person suffering from acid reflux and heartburn knows about the bad experiences. These remedies can be used to naturally treat acid reflux and heartburn problems. Other lifestyle changes should also be implemented, such as drinking more water, learning about your sensitivity to different foods, losing fats, quitting smoking and eating slowly. Ultimately, this problem could build up gradually due to a combination of bad habits which we can identify and remove.

Turmeric is gold for the body, but I can tell you it's rough if you eat it straight and not in pill form/in or on food. Black pepper helps you absorb it better too.

Good content, although I wouldn't call most of those thing "treatments", most of them are simply changing lifestyle habits, which is sometimes very hard to do (which is why there are so many obese people who aren't happy about it, but still remain in that condition).
However, the drinking soda and the turmeric are great tips. I didn't know about those, and would be happy to spread the knowledge :-)
