Kiwi In Moscow (HD) - Episode 2 - Russia Remembers World War II. Hosted by Suzie Dawson

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Enjoy this phenomenal, picturesque footage I shot in Moscow. Because Russia, Russia, Russia is all we hear about these days. But what is Moscow really like in this day and age? Suzie Dawson, activist, journalist and leader of the Internet Party of New Zealand, takes you on a tour around Moscow, along with her best friend, tour guide Ksenia Terenteva.

Hey everyone!

Since Russia is incessantly bandied about in the news cycle by people who have never been here and probably never will, I figured it would be timely to take the opportunity to show people what Moscow is really like.

Kiwi In Moscow is a web series I started in 2017 which I intend to continue in 2018. In it, my best friend Ksenia and I tour around different locations in the city to show people what Moscow is really like, because it is absolutely nothing like it is depicted to be in the West.

Each episode has a different theme, features different places, people and activities, and has an interview component in each.

In the second episode the theme is war. We join some 800,000 Russian citizens to march in the Victory Day parade to the Red Square and St Basil's Cathedral. This is the biggest holiday day of the year, because so many Russian people died in World War II - at least one in every family, more in many - that even now over 70 years later, every single Russian person marches to remember the sacrifice and then celebrates the day that the war ended.

We then head to an after-party at a local restaurant and listen to some live music. (Bonus - you get to see Ksenia dancing!) Later in the episode, we meet up with two-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee anti-war activist, author and radio host David Swanson and take him on a tour of the city. We end up at Christ the Saviour Cathedral, sitting by a reflecting pool and having a long chat about how to end war, before walking over one of the bridges on the Moscow River.

Would love to hear your feedback and know what you think. Do you like what you see? Is it what you expected?
The next episode gets even better, but because they take me a long time to produce, I'll probably only be posting one per month after that.

Enjoy!

The scene of the crowd outside the Kermlin left me speechless. Americans do not unify in any way that would result in 800,000 citizens of different backgrounds/ideologies marching out front of the Capital.

Really informatively fun vid, contrast to what is propagated here in the states, great tour of a city I would like to visit. Thanks for being on dtube and sharing your world.

I think it's a great idea to show people that not everything in the world is the way they think it is and a lot of us in the West have (been given) a certain view of Russia and other countries throughout the world which, when you take even the smallest amount of time to consider for yourself, turns out to be as far from the truth as can be.

It's always nice to see someone providing the side of the argument that many would rather was ignored.

Have a great day Suzie and keep up the good work, my friend. :)

Thank you so much. I totally agree. When I came to Russia, I had all the typical Western preconceptions about what it would be like, and every single one of them turned out to be total nonsense. It's amazing that those narratives continue to be propagated when its patently obvious to anyone who comes here, how untrue they are! I definitely hope more Westerners visit Moscow and see for themselves how badly we have been propagandised against Russia and its people, and put 2 and 2 together about why that is and which interests it serves.

Thank you for doing this @suzi3d. We need to dispell the myths about Russia, so we can work together in the future.

Loving this series Suzie and hoping there is more to come..Can you please admit one thing though? Vladimir Putin was the cameraman and he was secretly sending radio wave signals through our screens to brainwash and influence the world's future elections. He is everywhere and unstoppable! I watched this video wearing my tin foil hat.

Hahaha!!!!!! Yes somehow we squeeze Putin into every episode one way or another. Except he hasn't shown up in Episode 3 yet, very disappointed!!!! We all know his greatest aspiration in life is to star in Kiwi In Moscow!!

We have plans for many more episodes but they take us a long time to film and a lot of time to produce so you'll have to be patient. At best we might get one out every month or two, I have so many other projects going on at the same time and it can be hard to juggle everything but yes I think this is very important, showing people what Moscow is REALLY like!

Wow David Swanson is really nice and down to earth. What a cool guy.

That's a good point about the Subway. You and Ksenia should film some of the Moscow subways so people can see how large it is.

David is basically a saint sent from heaven. I will definitely contact him and convince him to join Steemit. He would be a wonderful addition to this platform

He'd be amazing, I really like your network of people so far. It'd be great to see you use Steemit to really change the narrative. Look forward to seeing a lot more of him.

Your video brings back so many memories for me -- I used to live in Moscow and even worked on Tverskaya Street featured in your video. How Russians view World War II is very different than how Americans view World War II. For people living in Russia, Nazi Germany posed a real existential threat to their existence. Tales of hardship are legendary, like the Siege of Leningrad, when the Germans were literally starving the Russians to death. And there are so many cities known as "hero cities" for their role in pushing back the Germans. I'm sure it was very powerful to experience those emotions first-hand and to see how much reverence people in Russia today have for the military veterans of World War II.

Yay so nice to see you and Ksenia continue this series! This is my favorite thing on Steemit and the two of you are charming. Keep going Suzie!

Thank you so much :)

So important that you're sharing your honest observations of the life in Russia & its people as you live there. Thanks for countering the Russia propaganda that US political circles & corp media are so aggressively pushing! You are so vital people for the sanity & safety of our world!

The countries America really doesnt want us to emulate are the ones they demonize like this...
