First aid for the electric shock victim
The risk of electric shock depends on the type of voltage, how high the voltage is, how the current is transmitted through the body, the general health of the person, and how quickly the person is treated.
The electrical shock may cause burns or may leave no visible mark on the skin. In both cases, the electrical current passing through the body may cause internal damage, cardiac arrest or other injury. Under certain conditions, even the small amount of electricity may be fatal.
*## When to visit a doctor
The person who has been injured should contact a source of electricity to visit the doctor.
* Important warnings
Do not touch the injured person if they remain in contact with the electrical current.
Call the local emergency number if the source of the burn is a high voltage wire or exposure to lightning, do not approach the high-voltage wire until the power is cut off, the upper power lines are usually not isolated, keep at least 20 feet (about 6 meters) Further distance if the wire is a glove of the type that produces a spark ignition.
A person who has suffered an electrical injury shall not move unless the person is at immediate risk.
When to seek emergency medical care
Call your local emergency number if the affected person has the following:
Acute burns.
confusion.
Breathing difficulty.
Problems with cardiac systems (arrhythmia).
Heart stops.
Pain and contractions of muscles.
Spasmodic seizures.
Unconsciousness.
Immediately take the following actions while waiting for medical assistance
Switch off the power source if possible, and if you can not, move the source away from you and the person using a dry, non-conductive object made of cardboard, plastic, or wood.
Start CPR if the person does not show signs of circulatory activity such as breathing, coughing or movement.
Try to protect the injured person from getting chills.
Place a bandage, cover any burned areas with a sterile gauze bandage, if available, or with a clean cloth, do not use a blanket or towel, as loose fibers may stick to burns.
