We rise by lifting others / we rise by staying glued to our grind
One great lesson I've learnt throughout my study of business management is that when it comes to managing business, there is no "one best way". It depends on the situation of things and the personality involved.
I have somehow adopted this in life and through experience i have come to understand that there is no one best way to success, it depends on your personality and the situation around you.

A lot of us hold on to this belief, we believe that we grow by growing others and we gather strength by pushing others up and as such we find ourselves selfless and living more for others.

Sometimes looking out for people could be a sheer waste of time and if we keep living for them we may actually never live.
Sometimes it's the grind that makes us who we are, the achievements we have gathered, the dilligence we have put in and the results we have produced and that is what actually counts.

You could help someone rise and then they rise faster than you, look back and decide to help you up
But then again you could help someone rise and they move higher, dust their feet in your face and keep climbing
You could also help someone rise and they actually never do rise, and all your efforts wasted. It becomes a lose-lose game.
Sometimes it's better you climb up the ladder and hand them the rope when you get up.
Or you give them a ladder too and focus on your own journey
why are we here?
However you choose to succeed and in whatever you do, strike a balance.
Do what in the end you won't end up regretting

What then would be your advice to those who live with this mentality that helping others succeed would undermine their personal chances of making it?
Well some people are not naturally helpers, it's a huge burden to them but then in one way or the other, life would put us in situations that require that people look up to us
Rightly said..... You just have to do what works for you. Understand your environment, examine your past experiences and strike a balance. In the end just WIN!!!

Indeed you may help someone rise and they moves so higher beyond you.....instead of looking out for the person that helped them....they will just dust their feet and keep moving......
