The Calbuco Volcano in Chile, unexpectedly, in 2015 initiated a series of eruptions after 40 years of inactivity. The ash clouds alerted the authorities and more than four thousand people were evacuated.

The Popocatépetl Volcano in Mexico, one of the most active volcanoes in the region, is 5,452 meters high and is located between the states of Puebla, Estado de México and Morelos. In 2016, it ejected a 3-kilometer ash cloud that alerted the population.
