Social media : Making us less social?

Once upon a time people would only communicate in person but that's not the case these days. Now we have things like calls, text messaging, emails, twitter, facebook, instagram, the list goes on and these platforms have become an integral part of our daily lives. App store has made it easy with the endless expanding list of applications available for download. Most people believe that with these platforms of interactions there is time for other things but unfortunately what they do not realise is that more is not always better;avoiding face to face conversations has a huge drawback.
We prefer to have to dial a number and talk over the phone or even send a message instead of having to meet. I feel that there are so many emotions hidden in our messages that the other person cannot feel as the message does not really interpret them well, sometimes messages could be misconstrued and this can put a strain on the relationship. So many people have lost close relationships as a result of this.
Most people wouldn't even want to hang out these days just because when they do its mostly the phone that does the hanging out. For example, you hangout with friends and they get busy with their phones keeping up with social media instead of keeping up with the conversation at the table. Then the question pops up "what is the need to hang out when we have our phones". I would say we need to and have to strike a balance between our social media and physical self, we have to understand the value of being together with physical humans.
