RE: Kafka and His Legacy (English/Turkish)

in #literature6 years ago

Excellent overview of Kafka's oeuvre, @muratkbesiroglu. I think that those who have not read him yet will want to now.
I first read Kafka as a teenager, accidentally ran into Metamorphosis and that is a text that has haunt me since.

The most critical deficiency of Kafka characters was that they didn't know how to rebel. They were attempting to analyze the situation so detailed that their actions could not be effective.

I think that by creating those kinds of characters, Kafka created a portrait of all intellectuals (public or private).
Scholars and academics have been able to dissect human folly, and yet they have not been able to work great transformations. Some obvious positive changes have been done, partly inspired by the works of authors and intellectuals who have been able to move beyond art for art's sake and assume their social responsibility, but overall, people are far from seeing the world with Kafkaesque clarity (or shall we say obscurity?), or else doing anything about it.
