Apple has recently changed there guidelines where it is now required for all mobile games to disclose their loot box drop rates on all their products.

The guideline -> Here, mentions that,

“other mechanisms that provide randomised virtual items or purchase must disclose the odds of receiving each type of item to customers prior to purchase”.

Its not very clear how developers are required to display all the new drop rates for any lootboxes but a similar crack down has already been regulated in Japan where the gaming regulation there has requested all developers to disclose all drop rates in their mobile games, 2 year ago they took it a step further and required devs to give away any item in the game if a player fails to obtain his / her desired item after spending x amount of dollars in the game.

This news comes as no surprise and was only a matter of time when the regulation was to be enforced in North America or worldwide for that matter.

Lootboxes / Gacha is most commonly used in freemium games where consumable virtual item which can be redeemed to receive a randomized selection of further virtual items. These items can include virtual character, consumable items, power booster, any type of in-game item that can be perceived as value.
