BEFORE THE BETTER HALF.

Do you know that there is a biblical model, or do I say guide to follow before getting into a relationship? Well, I just found out and I want to share. Hold on to your hats, it’s about to get interesting.
RELATIONSHIP; means a connection or association. Kinship; related by blood and also a romantic or sexual involvement.

So let me ask, how many of you have relationship goals, I don’t mean the picture posting on IG, the clothes to match and all that shit. I mean real life goals. If a relationship is not aimed at some goals, does not follow God’s model of what a relationship should be, all the effort and energy put into it would yield no result.

Most of our relationships are so mismatched that we they end, we find ourselves thinking, oh I thought he was the one, oh I thought we was soul mates and stuff like that. When we do not have a clear picture of what a relationship entails and where we need to be before we get our better halves, we damage people and all the things that was ever involved in that relationship.

WHAT DO YOU MEASURE YOUR RELATIONSHIP BY?

Relationships needs a fixed barometer, but the world is so messed up now that we measure our relation by fleeting things, things like the secular lifestyle, the pop culture and our feelings. Forgetting an important fact that all these things are ever changing and unreliable in measuring our relationships. This is because they are in a constant state of change and can be called moving targets. How do you shoot at a moving target? How do you setup something solid with a moving target? How do you get a perfect shot at a moving target?

And as opposed to culture, secular world, the only unchanging, unwavering thing is the word of God.

8 The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.”

CAN WE LET THE STANDARD OF OUR RELATIONSHIP BE THE WORD OF GOD?

IN GENESIS, relationship first appeared, the relationship of Adam and Eve after the relationship of the trinity.
Genesis 2:18 New International Version (NIV)
18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

Firstly, understand that God wants a relationship for you. He created you to be in a relationship with others, he know it is not a good thing to be alone. It is not good for man to set up a life in isolation because this gives the enemy ample opportunity to put lies into our head. Anything against the word of God is a lie and GOD SAID IT IS NOT GOOD FOR MAN TO BE ALONE, so why be in isolation?

WHAT YOU NEED BEFORE THE BETTER HALF.

Genesis 2 vs. 8-9; 15-18

From the above scripture, God laid out what every individual needs to have because he brings the better half along.
First we need a PLACE, I don’t mean a house, I mean a placement from GOD. WHAT WE THINK IS A COINCIDENCE OR A DIFFICULT SITUATION, is just a placement from God. Because your placement brings the second thing you need which is PURPOSE. In the Garden of Eden, God gave Adam a place (the garden) and a purpose (tending to the garden and all in it).

When you stop fighting the place God has put you in, you find your purpose. Then you need an IDENTITY, God wants you to understand who you are. He wants you to know you are spirit first, because he is a spirit and he made you in his image and likeness. He wants you to stop the social media comparison, he wants you to be comfortable with who you are before he brings your better half along.

“You can never be comfortable in an identity that is not yours”

And after the identity comes the PARAMETERS or the rules. God said to Adam, you can freely eat of all in the garden EXCEPT……. God set the rules, but Adam didn’t abide by it hence the loss of the paradisiac state. If you don’t have your own rules, your own standard, your parameters before you go into a relationship, the relationship brings the standard for you. This brings pain in the end because we did not live by the parameters for accountability, honesty, purity and openness.

Remember two heads are better than one, at everything even creating a hot mess.

GET WHAT YOU NEED, BEFORE YOU GET YOUR BETTER HALF.
