#ShowSunday: Sense8 Finale - A Goodbye for all eternity
This #ShowSunday, I bring one of my favorites, while still coming down from the overwhelming rush of emotions that it gave me. After its cancelation at the end of season two, the fans demanded closure and even if a little rushed, we got it.
Sense8 was american web television show produced by Netflix, created by Matrix's directors, the Wachowskis. The show told the story of the psychic connection of eight strangers, known as 'sensates', from different cultures and parts of the world and how they -while each have very unique stories to tell- get caught up in danger at the hands of an evil organization that seeks to understand these different kind of human beings.
This two-and-a-half hour series finale takes on right after the end of season 2, that left the cliffhanger on Wolfgang getting captured by our evil, bad guys. The run time enabled me to see it more as movie spin-off than an actual episode, but that's maybe just me.
However, touching -sometimes barely just brushing over- many topics in a rushed manner and leaving many things untreated, it is hardly the best episode of the show. Not even direction wise it is as good as others. I firmly believe this is due to the fact that they had a deadline to premiere the finale, surely pushed fast by Netflix - the real bad guys here.
Nonetheless, even though the pace is odd going from too slow to too fast in a weird rythm, it does the job: it packs an emotional, shocking, thrilling and action-packed story to close the series with as many questions answered as they could afford.
Everybody, some even more than others (yes, I'm talking about Kala, Wolfgang and Rajan and their mind-blowing arrangement), gets their deserved happy ending, leaving us with a sense of satisfaction and inner peace (although yes, as fans we're still nostalgic and upset a show with such potential, such an unique plot and diverse cast, ended like this, so soon).
The finale will leave you with a turmoil of feelings only a re-watch several times will help ease, but you'll be happy to see it, knowing its creators put all their effort into giving us the right end this series could afford at this point and in doing so we're left with the knowledge that this show will go down in history for TV and many of us, which is more than other shows can say.
