I dislike the feeling of being controlled or manipulated, trying to show off of "win' affection by pushing peoples emotions or grabbing their attention is prolly not a great long term strategy.
caring about who somebody is, allowing and supporting them to be more of that without putting conditions on them - thats pretty cool

The body of your article says that self development and improvement make you more attractive. Attraction implies choice, not compulsion.
