Ulog: The Dark side of Love



Love can strike us in many different ways. It is sometimes the most beautiful thing in the world, but at other times, it could also be the most painful and dreadful feeling that comes to your life.

It's so strange how love can be two opposing things--it can complete us and destroys us at the same time, it can be heaven and hell, it also gives us the feeling of elation and devastation. But that's what makes love so beautiful and addicting because of its intensity that hits us.

When we were young, we were so fascinated about the idea of love, because we were fed by the fairytales, the wonderful kind of love. And so, we imagined how beautiful our own love story will be written and we were excited and longed to experience that. Then, when we reached the adulthood, we saw that love does not always result to a happy ending, that the idea of ''happily ever after'' does not exist in reality.

The most horrifying and frustrating kind of love, is the fact that you know that you really love a person so dearly yet, you can never have him or her due to unfavorable circumstances.

Sometimes, it results in the drifting apart of the two people who love each other the most. What even worse is to watch each other walk away, eyes meet from the distance, tears running through their cheeks whispering goodbyes to the story they have never began. This is how love tricks us, it does not signal the beginning of something beautiful, but rather the end of something that might have been beautiful.



Accepting the reality that you can never be together and will never be, is as painful as cutting yourself down slowly and deeply. Tortured by the world you are living in.

That's why sometimes, we resort into our childhood fantasy of love whenever we feel the dark side of it. Because that's the only way we could get out from the labyrinth of its reality. Hence, we create our own world wherein, you two can be together and everything is perfectly beautiful, wishful and hopeful again about love. However, this is just but a short term relief of the current pain.



Perhaps, we suffer from the choices we made. Compromising is part of love that can never be separated, but how far your willingness to compromise will be your choice. There are some cases, however, that even how much we love a person, sometimes we are afraid to go beyond to do the things that are against our nature. And so, we just choose to let the person go and just love him or her from afar. That's the sad truth about love.

But sometimes you really have no choice, you cannot force the nature, you cannot dictate your fate. All you have to do is to move on, pain won't go away instantly, just relish on it. You will feel better year after year. Hoping that the two of you find the ones that are meant for you, so that both of you will be happy for each other, holding someone else's hands. But this does not mean you will stop loving each other. It is just that, some people are meant to be apart.

That's how painful loving someone you can never have. The darkest side of love.
