Many people might have forgotten. Pink used to do R&B songs on her debut Can't Take Me Home, and her sophomore LP Missundaztood is a game changer for her. From R&B to rock, yes it is, and her anthemic song from the album is Don't Let Me Get Me. The song is very personal for Pink as she narrates her younger years up to the beginning of her mainstream music career.

Starting the song narrating the character's school life. She is part of a team yet she is not supportive of them, and the fact that they never won. It's like telling everyone that she's a loser, and has no goal to succeed. Her life has no direction, a kind of life that can be described as rebellious.

Even the character doesn't like what she sees about herself. There seems self-hatred, and it's something she is battling with. She's harming herself on her actions due to her low self-esteem. It could be the result of what kind of environment she had in her family.

All you have to change is everything you are."

From her childhood up to her adulthood, she feels being dictated on what to do, being away of her identity. LA, I think, refers to L.A. Reid, a label executive, who is telling her what to become as a musician. It's very obvious as she is a pop/R&B star on her debut, someone who was aimed to rival Britney Spears. But she refused to be known as a pop princess and decided to do rock on her second album, which even made her more famous.

Don't Let Me Get Me was very personal for Pink, and it followed the success of her party anthem Get the Party Started. It became her fifth American top 10 hit with peak of number 8, cpurtesy of Billboard. Aside from the US, the song performed as good when it peaked at number 6 in United Kingdom, according to OCC. The pre-YouTube music video was viewed, at this writing, more than 78 million times.*
