Kipu Life Trip Day 06 - Machu Picchu.

Words are not necessary to describe this Ancient wonder of the world but here we go.

In addition to describing our journey to this sacred site I am also going to attempt to exhibit how I personally believe this was not solely constructed by the Incas, but rather the Incas built on top of a pre-existing site of a far more ancient civilization built many thousands of years prior. If one walks around the ruins of the Andes it is clear there are the remnants of two different methods of construction – one far more advanced (and ancient) than the other.

The journey for us began in Ollantaytambo. We took the train to the little town of Aguas Calientes at the base of the ruins.

It is a comfortable train ride with a beautiful sky roof that allows you to view the gorgeous scenery of the sacred valley.

After arriving in Aguas Calientes you must take a bus ride up the ruins.

When you arrive at the ruins words do not do justice to what you see and it takes your eyes a few seconds to adjust and comprehend what you see before you.

Getting back to what I mentioned above. I believe there are two ancient civilizations responsible for constructing Machu Picchu. I am by no means an expert but there are researchers out there who have investigated this. Below are some pictures I took in person which I believe clearly show two different styles of ancient build, one far more advanced than the other. I have also included a video by researcher Matt Sibson, which does a great job of explaining the theory that this site was constructed by the Incas on top of a pre-existing ancient site they discovered.

The foundation and top of this structure at Machu Picchu are clearly different. What do you think?

And here's the Ancient Sun dial also built by those who came before the Inca (theory).

After a glorious day at Machu Picchu we were fortunate to have a lovely drive back through the Sacred Valley to the city of Cusco where we caught our bus to the Amazon.

Machu Picchu brings back so many great memories. I trekked for a day up there, and it was absolutely stunning all the way

For me too. the first time I've visited is in the year 2001 with my family. Still remember being unable to comprehend when I was looking at .

Those pictures are amazing! Looks like you have to be in shape for some of that hiking. Looks like a great trip.

In the mountains NOT AS MUCH as you might imagine. In the posts I'll be making in the days/ weeks to come in the Amazon. DEFINITELY.

really breathtaking, Bennett!!!!

Yes indeed. Words do not suffice.
