BEES: DO WE REALLY KNOW THEM?

We all know the bees or we think, we know them for their honey production the construction of large hives. The notion that we have of the bees is that they are social insects with a Queen, Workers and Drones, which are those small plump insects of yellow color and black stripes in the abdomen that go jumping from flower to flower to eat their nectar and collect the pollen that they will take to the hive to feed the larvae.

But bees are a much wider group of insects, they have more than 20,000 described species that are mostly not social insects but are solitary insects that do not form swarms and some other species are semi-social as bumblebees that form small sporadic colonies.

Evolutely, bees are related to wasps and ants.

Bees are one of the most important animals for the survival of the human being on the planet, although most humans do not know why this importance. As it turns out that flowering plants need their flowers to be fertilized with pollen from other flowers in a process called pollination, this process is mainly done by insects, where bees are the most important pollinators. So the importance of bees for the lives of both humans and the other animals that inhabit the planet Earth is that much of the food comes from flowering plants, representing for man about a third of their diet.

So, if you see a little bee out there, please do not kill it.
