How Would You Define Value? (Here on Steemit).

Value

Something that is often mentioned here on Steemit is the idea of 'adding value' to the platform. In fact, the whole idea behind Steemit itself was to reward people who providing the best value content on the blockchain. Even @ned has stated recently that this is not what is currently happening here and is seeking ways to ensure that it does.

Trending Bidbots

We've all seen what's on the 'Trending' and 'Promoted' tabs and know that there is very little in the way of actual value there. This is made worse by the fact that people are buying their way to the top of those pages, or using bots to "game the system". I thought the idea was to move away from the "pay to play" model!

Nebulous and Intangible

So what is value? The problem is that value is subjective; one person's treasure is another person's trash. What might be of benefit to me, might not be of benefit to you or the wider community.

Steepshot vs Minnow Support

Recently, I went to use the Minnow Support upvote bot for one of my posts, uploaded via Steepshot. The bot informed me that Steepshot posts are not considered to be of high enough value to upvote. Now to me, the quality of what I am doing is largely the same. Steepshot just makes it faster and easier to share information (without the HTML coding though). Granted, a selfie is going to be of less perceived value than say a post about Bitcoin's latest performance against the US dollar, but once again this is subjective.

Final Thoughts

While value is seemingly difficult to describe and harder still to capture, as a general rule I think it's about sharing things, skills, journeys, and trying to enrich the lives of others. Our lives are filled with dreams, hopes, goals, disappointments, nightmares and horrors. All of it can be of value to the blockchain if it's presented in a way that is palatable, engaging and inviting. However, if you narrow your focus down you can create something that is informative and transformative and that, is real value.

I also disagree to the minnowsupport policy. How can a photo be less valuable?
People like us spend hrs searching for a good spot to take a good photo and sometimes on editing so that the work is just what we wanted.
I also feel there is something wrong with the way steemit is going and needs some change. There is so much love here but everything gets dominated by paid bots and paid resteems.

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by Xrotarebil from the Minnow Support Project. It's a witness project run by aggroed, ausbitbank, teamsteem, theprophet0, someguy123, neoxian, followbtcnews, and netuoso. The goal is to help Steemit grow by supporting Minnows. Please find us at the Peace, Abundance, and Liberty Network (PALnet) Discord Channel. It's a completely public and open space to all members of the Steemit community who voluntarily choose to be there.

The proverb - "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" comes to mind.

Value is a matter of perspective!

It is, but it also depends on the benefit of the information presented. I try my best to be informative and fun, but it might not always come across that way.
