MANURES AS A FACTOR TO SOIL ENRICHMENT
Manures are plant and animal waste that are used as sources of plant nutrients. They released nutrients after their decomposition .Manures could be organic or inorganic.
It could also be grouped based on concentration of nutrients as:
- bulky organic manure and
- concentrated organic manure
The bulky manure manure contains small percentage of nutrient and they are applied in large quantities like farmyard manure, compost, green manure, poultry manure, sheep and goat manure etc
The concentrated manure contains large nutrients and applied in small quantities like fish meal, blood meal, oil cake etc
The advantages of manure are as follows:
- It supply plant nutrients including micro- nutrient
- It improve soil physical properties like structure, water holding capacity
- Plant parasitic nematodes and fungi are controlled to some extent by altering the balance of micro-organisms in the soil
- Carbon(iv)oxide release during the decomposition acts as a carbon(iv)oxide fertilizer
