From Dirt to Dank--Week Six: Strange Roots...

Week 6.0

We are now just beginning the sixth week of the Dirt to Dank cannabis grow. (Though, technically, the following photos are all taken during the plants' fifth week of life--)

Things have been going quite beautifully, as you can see by the buddies' lush, green growth :)

As you can see, the plants have been moved from the dixie cups to these larger plastic pots. Although transplanting can be quite traumatic for the plants sometimes, I've been lucky so far, and they seem to actually be liking their new, more spacious homes.

One strange thing has occurred, and I'm hoping someone out in Steemit-land might be able to help me.

If you look closely at the picture below, you will see, coming from the bottom of DJ Blueberry's planter, what almost looks like a piece of vermicelli pasta, but is most likely a long-ass root.

My question is, I thought that when/ if you ever see this scenario, it is due to the plant wanting to be in a bigger container. But they were just transplanted! Granted, they have "blown up" substantially, even in the few days since the move, but, could they already be ready to move again??

After getting over the initial shock of seeing what looked like gross, ectoplasmic snot-rockets coming from two of my plants, dI did a bit of research and found out that the phenomenon can be considered normal, and not something to be too worried about. Common theory seems to be that the roots are, in a sense, still becoming acclimatized to the new surroundings, and are "stretching out" in order to "test their bounds," so to speak--just like any normal "teen-ager" ;). This "extra" root will basically fall off on its own accord, due to something called "air-pruning" (https://www.rollitup.org/t/roots-starting-to-come-out-of-bottom-of-flower-pot.414686/).

Here are another couple pics; the first is of my Pink Panther #3 which has also developed an errant root:

Then one of the same plant, top view, and then the Blueberry Short from the same angle.

As always, stay green.

I confirm, that your problem is not a real problem. Cannabis shows vigour not only by foliage growth, but also by root system growth. So when you see a root sticking out through the whole soon after the transplant it means you have a very healthy plant growing, that needs as much space for the roots as you can give her, so next transplant should be done to a very large pot to max out the potential!

:)) That makes me happy to hear :) Thanks, @conradino23!! Any tips on when or how exactly to best calculate the time for another move?

Give her a week, maybe 10 days and then upcan her into the biggest pot you can fit into your growing space.

Yeah... unfortunatley, my growspace is like... 2 ft by 3 ft... with 5 plants... it's gonna be tight lol (although, I'm assuming not all these will be male--they were from "bags," and so therefore not pre-sexed.. But we shall see!! Thanks again.
