Market Friday

in #marketfriday6 years ago (edited)

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) I hope you will join me as we share different markets across the globe. Every week, I look forward to seeing what all of you send me! I am always happy to see so many different markets and products from around the world.

I have been to so many new places lately! Oh! The curiosity that is attached to foreign ingredients, different produce or any product sold. So, yes! I would love to see yours! Don't forget to take photos wherever you happen to be shopping - whether it be the grocery store, the local marketplace or even an art gallery. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or for merchandise. Be different if you wish! It does not have to be a traditional market! We will love it! I promise you! Don't forget to use the hashtag #MarketFriday and @dswigle.

Please leave the link to your post on here so it can easily be found by others. They will all be in one place. Where else can you take such a quick trip around the globe? Thank you! ❤

I have not made it a secret that I have been hiding out in Bermuda for weeks now. It is like a mini paradise. (I say mini paradise because the entire island is 22 miles long and 1 mile wide!) So, I was taking a walk through the Royal Naval Dockyardsand I came to a sign that said."Bermuda Glassblowing Studio and Rum Cake Factory."

In we go! Who could resist a glass blower? Not this girl. I was told they demonstrate and have a small gallery from which you can watch.

Oh! But, first a flower!
I am always about the flowers.
Thank you for indulging me.

The glassblowing was fascinating to watch. I asked if I could take pictures and they were very happy to accommodate me. Most places seem to be amiable about taking pictures if I ask permission first.

So, I usually do.

As you can see in the set of four pictures, the girl puts the molten glass in the furnace (or crucible) They said they heat it to almost 2,000 degrees. Holy moly. Heating it makes it easier to work with and shape. I was amazed at how they used tools to make bowls, dishes, and glass animals.

See more here

Ribbet collage.jpg

There were several people doing the more intricate work of small flowers. It was truly fascinating to watch them heat up and pull the petals a certain way, right before my very eyes, making nothing into something.

They are complex and layered, such beautiful objects of decorated art.

Ribbet collage2.jpg

Handmade, beautiful and each and every piece is a unique piece. It is in this warehouse/gallery that they showcase the designs and intricate work that goes into glass blowing. Some pieces are shaped after they have been heated and some are blown.

Did I happen to mention that their flowers are always in bloom?

IMG_0296a.JPG

I am going back in a short bit. When I do, I am going to come back with one of these beauties in my luggage. I wanted to have one made for me that would mean something, soI put off buying one this trip.

I am always enamored by people who had the talent, learned or inherited, to create such beauty. I had a wonderful day, and the time was well spent. I am looking forward to going back again.

IMG_0299.JPG

I never showed you the rum cakes, but, that was because we ate them all up. I know! I know! But, believe it or not, everyone in there cleaned them out. And that was the warehouse.

Sigh.

Next time. First thing I buy will be a rum cake so I can take a picture of it for you. Then eat it.

Don't ever forget what wonderful world we live in, people. Let's hold hands around the globe and make this earth really spin. Some days, it is not as easy to see, so we must try harder to give everyone the proper focus.

What a cool place! I always liked how they make glass!!

I loved this place and was glad I had the time to stop in and watch for a while. I went to Murano when I was in Venice and have been hooked ever since!

Hope all is well in your world! xo

Apologies for the very low upvote and little to no tip! Being away for weeks = no money, honey. Harsh fact of life.

Tip!

Hi @blacklux! You have received 0.1 SBD tip from @dswigle!

I’ve been tempted to do another one on a game market place. Just been a while since I’ve run into a decent game that had a thriving player created one that was not just a central auction house page that does everything. I do miss the world style of gaming a fair amount of having to set up a booth in a game and sell your wares overnight leaving your computer running. Ah the old and strange days! Won’t be this week maybe I’ll just run a game at some point that will inspire me to.

I have been meaning to get down to the flea market down here. They always seem to be getting raided so than I think “well maybe not.” Other times just buckets of rain so no way those outdoor venders would want be around for that even if they bring something to try and cover things up.

I always love to watch glass blowers they have such talent. It is strange no matter how much tech changes certain trade skills like that almost seem unaffected and are somewhat similar around the world. That pieces have some amazing color to them!

Have an amazing Friday!

Well, you know I am totally waiting to see another game market post from you! :)

Of course, I am kidding. I know how few and far between those are! Decent ones just aren't that easy to find. Sometimes we have to throw ourselves back out there to get those juices flowing. This morning, I lay in a cozy bed, talking myself out of getting up for a run. It was before 6 and a Saturday, I whimpered. Pfft! I drug myself up and had the best ever morning. It was cool, for a change. The humid weather had lifted and I was glad once I got myself going. But... it would have been so easy to not. So, I hope to see you moving in that direction. Who knows? It could be fun. Again.

The glassblowers really fascinate me. So low tech and so high in the beauty. Some things just cannot be improved upon. I did love the colors! Thank you so much for stopping by and giving the market a look-see!

Have a great weekend, @enjar!

A brand new business!! LOL

We have a glass museum in my hometown. A lot of it is old glass collected by the Dukes hundreds of years ago. And then, there are the modern pieces from all over the world. It is truly an experience - but don't go there with a toddler LOL

Oh! How cool is that? A glass museum sounds like something I would love to see! Not only would it have a selection of one glassblowing place, but pieces and styles from everywhere!

Yes, Please!

Oh, you can bet I didn't ever take a toddler to any place glass. Ever. LOL

Your post is relevant to me and has the correct size. I should copy your technique but I'm not ready yet. I only stole the idea of posting a flower ... I have so many flower photos I do not use. Yes, the glassblowing is magic! Romania had a great tradition in this kind of manufactory, unfortunately it was destroyed. Those who worked under these hard conditions had a lot to suffer physically. They inhaled very hot air that affected their teeth and lungs.

The photos are especially beautiful and they are seen as being made with calm, not hidden. It is a great advantage to get permission to shoot. You remembered Murano, that glass is very expensive.

A request for you: No need for upvotes or tips, you don't have to make such an effort right now. I participate with all the pleasure in this challenge and I don't want to be understand that this is doing for a reward. We're friends, right?

My post is too long again, I hope you will not get bored: My Post for Today

If anything I have can help you in any way, you are welcome to it. Trust me, I am flattered because I always think I need improvement!

I am glad you posted the flowers also; one can never have enough beauty flowing through these pages.

I am so sorry to hear about your glassblowing industry. Those were harsh times and cruel conditions that you all lived under. For the life of me, I cannot understand how one human being can do that to another and sleep at night.

I loved Murano and believe it or not, the glass from there is sold here(cheaper than in Murano!) How?? Of course, the most beautiful pieces never leave Italy unless they are bought. ;) That is fair to me.

I have found that asking permission usually gets me a yes, with an occasional no, but hardly ever.

I already upvoted this so it is too late, but, it is so tiny, you probably won't notice. :)

What I said was generated by your statement: Apologies for the very low upvote and little to no tip! Being away for weeks = no money, honey. Harsh fact of life. I thought you would be able to keep and grow your SP this way(not voting this week to some people who don't expect this as a reward to be in challenge. Wanted to tell you that I am one of these people.

I understood what you were doing and it just so happens that I was paid enough money to generate tips and a boats not hours after I wrote that so otherwise you would have not seen anything. But it warms my heart to be able to do that. And I wanted to tell you that I appreciate how far from you were.

I understand the warmth of your heart very well and I'm glad to meet people where this is working! Thank you for understanding what I meant, I fear many times that small mistakes of expression can dramatically change the meaning of a phrase.

Glass art and rum cakes, how enticing! Sounds like you are having a wonderful time and these glass blowers are magicians. Very impressive and colorful creations. I ma really curious which ones you are going to take home.

By the way, I have little something for you:

Hi, Lena! So happy to see you here at #MarketFriday! I do love the people of Bermuda and the peace and tranquility found here.

The glassblowers were a huge bonus. I just love watching these people work their magic and create the beauty that they do! I didn't take any home this time, but, I am going back in a few weeks and it will give me time to think about what I want.

Oh! You went picking!! How awesome! Thank you, sweetness!

Apologies for the very low upvote and little to no tip! Being away for weeks = no money, honey. Harsh fact of life.

I agree, they truly make magic and I wish I could visit Bermuda someday. I can only imagine what an amazing place it is.

And no need to apologize Sweetie, your comment is the most important to me XOXO

It's so nice to see artisans still exist and carrying on with this great tradition of skill in glass making. Most of my cousins in Ireland worked at the Waterford glass factory before it closed down. Shame, it was lovely to get the odd bit of crystal every now and again. :) My mum had stacks of the stuff as presents.

Today we have a little history lesson with some beautiful flowers.
https://steemit.com/smartphonephotography/@molometer/the-war-of-the-roses

Oh, Waterford! I am totally jealous! What an awesome place to work! Perhaps. Think of all the crystal that you would be surrounded with!!

Well, teacher! I am ready for the lesson! Here I come! I am bringing an apple!

Apologies for the very low upvote and little to no tip! Being away for weeks = no money, honey. Harsh fact of life.

Tip!

My cousins and uncles worked there for decades so it must have been a nice place to work and they often made one off pieces for my mum. As for the small upvote you really do not have to worry about it at all. the apple will do fine.

In the interests of balance:
Holiday = fun = no money ha ha but what lovely memories = priceless.

Oh, truth!

I wouldn't trade it for anything, but, not everyone is as understanding as you! ;) Thank you!
