Meet Da Vinci, the surgeon robot.

Da Vinci is the robot that makes up the most sophisticated surgical system in the world, as it offers great precision to the surgeon and maximum patient safety. This great robot was designed by the American company Intuitive Surgical and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States in the year 2000.

The design of Da Vinci consists of an ergonomically designed console from which the surgeon controls the entire robot in a comfortable position that avoids the fatigue of long operations that are performed standing up; a surgical cart containing four robotic arms, controlled from the console, and to which at their ends are attached the various tools of a surgery and designed to allow the surgeon to preserve their natural skills, such as scalpels, scissors, etc. And a vision tower, conformed by a high quality visualization system.

During the operation, the surgeon does not have direct contact with the patient since the entire process is performed from the control console where the surgeon sits facing it and has a three-dimensional and enlarged view of the patient's interior, in addition to providing a view unique where it allows to observe the area between the affected area and the operating instrument that is being used. Other unique advantages offered by the robot is the use of a fluorescence system that helps the doctor to locate the blood vessels, thus reducing bleeding during the operation, as well as the facility of simultaneously displaying on the console, the tests performed previously to the surgery and thus be able to observe the examinations of the area to intervene.

Although it can be thought that the surgeon is a bit isolated and distant from other people during the operation, the system also allows an interaction with the rest of the team that intervenes in the surgery, as the console projects on a screen what the surgeon see and do in real time, allowing the assistants to communicate with the surgeon by drawing or pointing on the screen, and thus transmit their impressions.

Although all these advantages make the Da Vinci system one of the most sophisticated in this area, as it enhances the capabilities and skills of the surgeon and makes it a minimally invasive option, it does not work autonomously, and at all times needs to receive orders from the surgeon to perform some action The system receives orders in real time, and is able to reproduce all the movements of the hand, wrist and fingers of the surgeon, allowing very precise movements in very small spaces.

Da Vinci is famous in the use for surgeries of prostate cancer and urological conditions, because thanks to its minimally invasive methods allows a faster recovery of urinary continence and other functions, in addition to reducing pain and leaving fewer scars. However, the robot can be used in the intervention of various pathologies in various areas such as gynecology, general surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery and even pediatric surgery.

Currently, the Da Vinci system is found in at least 24 health centers worldwide, and more than 3 million surgeries have been performed with it. In the future it is expected that the amount of equipment will increase, and although its high price may be a limitation, the advantages it offers are quite high, and it is certainly worth the investment in one of these advanced systems, which can represent a great benefit for patients.

That is an amazing development.

I wonder if eventually they will be able to develop software sophisticated enough to perform surgery on it own. No more waiting lines.

I wonder if this would be able to remove widespread cancers, something that would fatigue and eventually defeat a human surgeon.

That would undoubtedly be a great step in medicine, which I have no doubt will be achieved someday. We will see what the future holds for us
