Today's Weed News for July 5th 2018 #MEXICO

For today's weed news we go to the great nation of Mexico.

As you may have heard, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has just been elected to replace Enrique Pena Nieto as Mexico's president on December 1st.

This has sparked a lot of chatter among the pro-cannabis community in Mexico because Lopez Obrador is committed to ending the drug violence in his country and has even hinted at repealing prohibition and decriminalizing many illegal substances including cannabis.

"I will achieve peace, that's my commitment, I will achieve peace and end the war we are not going to continue with the same strategy that hasn't brought us positive results" said Lopez Obrador earlier this month.

One very positive sign is that the president-elect has already chosen a pro-cannabis cannabis legalization candidate for his interior secretary position during his presidential transition.

The person in question, Olga Sanchez Cordero, is a former Supreme Court official and has often vocalized her support for cannabis legalization even saying that she will "seek the decriminalization of marijuana for recreational use."

Sanchez Cordero is also made public her plans to propose to Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador the legalization of cannabis.

This news comes as Mexico has slowly been inching forward with their cannabis policies. Current president Enrique Pena Nieto legalized MMJ in the country last year.

It's beginning to look like North America is waking up about the failed, outdated drug policies that we are forced to live with.

It's going to be funny if both Canada and Mexico have legal cannabis before the US does.
