Character

The oxford dictionary defined character in various ways. Some of these definitions are
1)A distinguishing feature; characteristic.
2)A complex of mental and ethical traits marking a person or a group.
3)Strength of mind; resolution; independence; individuality; moral strength.
4)A unique or extraordinary individual; a person characterized by peculiar or notable traits, especially charisma.
4)The estimate, individual or general, put upon a person or thing; reputation.

There are many ways in which the word character can be described. But one thing is for sure. The fact that our character is what defines us. It is what people will judge us by, it is what people will talk about even after we're gone. It is one of the most important things that we have as humans. But the question is, does our character reflect God. Is it a reflection of our faith in him.

Jesus promised in Mark 13:13, that we would be hated, faced with trials and suffering here on earth, but Romans 5:3-5 shows us that in suffering, true character is formed which pushes us to hope, because we have God's love poured into our hearts.

Mark 13:13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Romans 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 5:4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Our character is in how we act in various situations. It is simply how we handle some certain situations whether with our words or actions. So we have to be on guard against the devil, so during the days or adversities, we can still exhibit the fruit of the spirit in word and deed.
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Colossians 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 3:14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Own character can be our own judge. Do we treat those around us with love and respect or do we treat them with disdain and hatred?

A poor man who walks with Christ will rejoice in his passing but a rich man who does not walk with Christ, but instead lives "the life" is sure to face God's wrath in his passing.

Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Matthew 12:35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
Matthew 23:25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. 23:26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

Titus 1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Conclusion
Character is something that we have to hold on to at all times. It's is a huge part of us as human beings and we have to do our best to cultivate a good character. It is what God sees in us every time. Take the time to look at yourself and ask if you're a Christian who's on fire for Christ or one who's just trying to blend in with the crowd, trying to look like everyone else.
