Humans are the only sentient beings on Earth using written laws to control their society

Law in it's natural form is Natural Law. Natural law is perfect due to the fact it requires no maintenance and it does not expire, it is immutable. Yet nearly all societies on earth use Laws made by Man, the written word in the form of decrees.
There's great importance placed on education from university or college that is rarely given to Universal Laws and Principles. The reason for this is with Universal Laws and Principles, every Man would have equal access to privileges and justice should someone transgress upon them. With Man made laws, whoever is making the laws determine who gets what privileges and or justice.
From the perspective of the predator, it's better to train society through universities and studies that are more compatible with Man made laws, you will more easily accept Man made laws if your world view is based on university education.
If you leave Man to his natural state without manipulating interference from other Men, Man will natural form order; even if it takes bloodshed (out of chaos comes order). Men weaponize laws in the form of manipulations using FEAR, which is the end product of Man made law, (meaning, laws are made to put FEAR in you so you will follow commands more easily. If you do not follow the law something bad will happen to you).
I'm not saying you have the right to do anything you want including harming others and or their property. What I'm saying is you have a right to make whatever decision you want with respect to others, there property and personal space. This is natural behavioral for all other sentient beings on earth. I do not know of anywhere in the animal kingdom that uses legal proceedings or documentation in the form of the opinion of the most power animals.
Animals do not have deeds for trees.

The purpose of the written law is not to better control society for the benefit of all, rather it is for men to better control other men without taking responsibility for their action. "The law gives them the right to do it, they are not responsible"
Now ask yourself, WHEN DID YOU AGREE TO THAT LAW
"The wolves must eat"
