Interested in Cryptocurrency Mining? Here's How Much a Good GPU Will Cost You!

in #mining6 years ago

With the dramatic rise in popularity towards #cryptocurrency markets, and particularly, #crypto #mining, it's only natural that people wonder how much it will cost to get into the mining game.

The technology journal Tech Radar was kind enough to share their thoughts on cryptocurrency mining, and they listed out what they believe are the six best mining centric GPUs.

Here they are, laid out in an attractive pie chart... :)

mining-best-GPUs.jpg

  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 --- $1,000
  • AMD Radeon RX 580 ---------- $469
  • AMD RX 480 --------------------- $364.85
  • AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 ---- $830
  • Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti ------------ $989
  • Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti ------------ $449

Remember that these costs are for one GPU! If you want to be a truly competitive miner (as in, you don't to waste money on your electricity bill), you need to have a mining rig, which requires six GPUs or more.

So yeah, not cheap, but if you want to do it, these are the numbers...Good Luck! :)

what coins are people mining for profit, if they don't have the horse power for bit coin? What's most profitable for the small guy?

That's a really tough question to answer as you're getting into a whole another dimension in the crypto sphere; I'm just listing the realities of what it will cost just to get into the game, never mind actually making a profit.

Ethereum can still (at present) be mined for profit using a decent card. Zcash is also quite popular. Cryptocompare.com is a good website. It shows various cards & rigs and how much each one can make mining various coins https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/#/equipment

Another good website is http://www.mycryptobuddy.com/GPUProfitability

Very good suggestions @bullishmoney, what happens regularly, is that people must understand that it is a mining business, and as such, we must be willing to invest in order to obtain the best dividends, when better equipment is available (higher GPUs) ) more possibilities to improve your performance and electrical fatcurance is an expense associated with your business (operating expense) and this expense can significantly reduce your utility, therefore it must be taken into account
regards

Absolutely! Like a business, if you don't know your numbers, you don't know your business (ie. mining)!

When you have the chance to make money, people will try it!

That is about as a true of a statement as you can make!
