Finding Context for the Future

in #money6 years ago

Our CEO at @thefoundry recently asked the entire leadership team to take a Strengths Finder test. If you are not familiar with the concept of Strengths Finder, essentially it is a psychoanalysis of your personality in order to find what you are gifted at.

I have taken tests similar to this since high school ranging from Dale Carnegie to Myers Briggs. However, there was one item that this test produced which was not present in any previous test.

In a word, that item is context. Apparently, that is an area of gifting for me specifically when it comes to looking back in order to predict what is coming.

I had to laugh when the word context showed up because ever since Biblical Hermeneutics class - fancy word for interpretation - the word context is forever etched in my memory.

Our professor drilled us class after class and test after test to remember that context is key. Many, if not all of the problems that arise in Biblical interpretation - and theology in general - is because folks take words or verses out of context.

In short, when we forget how the cause happened we misinterpret how to fix the effect. This is a truth that applies in many areas that I enjoy studying, and at this point in my life, perhaps none more so than monetary history.

This is by far my favorite video to share with people when they ask me why I am not a Keynesian economist.

When you understand the context of history - in this case the last 140 years - it makes sense why we are where we are.

All things are held in balance, and when something becomes unbalanced, the opposite side of the scale seeks to bring things to an equilibrium.

I don’t know of a more succinct or clearer picture than the one Mike shares in this 10 minute video.

May it shed some light for you on the context of sound money in the past two centuries.

Thanks for sharing this fascinating video...

I'm not entirely sure that its apparent conclusion is correct, however.

What do you think the possibility may be of Bitcoin becoming the world reserve currency?

😄😇😄

@creatr

It is possible Bitcoin may become the reserve currency but I doubt it happens for another 10-20 years. We still have another 5-7 years before crypto is mainstream and a part of our daily lives. China’s Yuan will probably step into the limelight for a time before we see crypto completely be the means of exchange.

Thanks for your observations... :D

You are most welcome! :)

there is context and there is contextualization - a method used by some to demythologize scripture and diminish the reality of its spiritual truths. It's the old story, lydon - there's a ditch on either side of the road :)

So true, haha. :)

Great video Lydon!
As one of Mike's 'Insiders,' it's nice to see the forest for the trees after so many analyses on market price momentum in the silver market...

Here here! Yes, it has been rough going for the last few years. Thankful for Mike’s hard work and continued focus.

Question, my friend, what is good medium to connect with you for a private message? Discord? Steemit chat?

Shoot, I have no idea how to operate either of those measures Lydon...
If you have any guidance on that please comment on one of my newer posts (so I see it) and let's go from there 😀

God endowed us with gifts, talents and skills that we must discover. The truth is that the engineers teach us very little about economics, so in these subjects we have many difficulties. However, now in the present with the new economic crisis of fiat currencies and the appearance of cryptocurrencies results in a fascinating field for us. Excellent article friend @ lydon.sipe. Best regards

Thank you, Felix.
