Here I want to share with you my quick look at recent news that potentially indicate excessively bearish sentiment on the gold market. In March, John Paulson's hedge fund closed its gold division and returned what was left of the money to the investors. In July, Vanguard dropped "precious metals" from the name of its fund. These are examples of how bearish the sentiments are.
Extremely bearish sentiment often go together with price lows. Back in 2001, Vanguard also dropped "gold" from the name of its fund, and the timing of that decision turned out to be very close to the gold price low. Will the more recent renaming by Vanguard also turn out to be close to gold price low. Let's see if gold price of $2021 by year 2021 is a possibility.
